The B’nai Mitzvah preparation focuses on synagogue skills, Hebrew language, and chanting.  However at Temple Shalom we view Bar/Bat Mitzvah as a milestone in our children’s learning that is much greater than preparation for one particular day.

We see Bar/Bat Mitzvah as the beginning of a spiritual life journey.  Our students are encouraged to stay in Religious School through Confirmation and to continue their involvement in our Temple.  They do so by becoming Ozrim, helpers, and contributing to Temple Shalom as teachers’ assistants.

Throughout the preparation for Bar/Bat Mitzvah, the students have several opportunities to meet with the rabbis, to work with the Cantor, and to be tutored by a private tutor who will work with the children on their specific Torah and Haftarah portions.
